Marmite and cheddar cheese scones

These scones are packed with creamy, salty cheese and bold Marmite flavour. Great for lunchboxes, with soup or to spread with butter and enjoy alone.

Method

Step 1

Heat oven to 200°C/gas 6.

Step 2

Warm a little of the milk in the small saucepan with the Marmite and stir until dissolved and combine with the rest of the milk, allow to cool.

Step 3

Sift flour and baking powder into the bowl. Rub in the diced butter until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the cheese.

Step 4

Mix the milk and Marmite mixture with the egg, add to the dry ingredients and stir with the table knife until the dough starts to come together.

Step 5

Place the dough on a floured surface and knead lightly till smooth and pat out till 3cm thick and use a cutter or knife to portion the dough.

Step 6

Place on a lined baking sheet and sprinkle with water and cook for 15 minutes until well risen and golden brown.

Step 7

Once out of the oven, cover with a clean tea towel and allow to cool.
