Bread sauce

This classic sauce is delicious served with roast turkey, chicken or roast pork too.

Method

Step 1

Place the milk, butter, onion, cloves, peppercorns, and bay leaf in a pan over a very low heat for 20 mins. Remove and discard the cloves, peppercorn and bay leaf.

Step 2

Cut the crusts off the bread, then crumble the bread into the milk and mash until broken up.

Step 3

Return to the heat and simmer for 5 mins. Stir in the cream and sprinkle with nutmeg, season and serve.
